Hi there, I'm sure that you're aware of the minimum liability to be maintained for a Louisiana vehicle...its 10/20/10 ie. for an accident. That clearly indicates that you'd need to pay $10,000 for bodily injury to one person, $20,000 for 2 or more & $10,000 for any form of damage caused to any property due to your negligence. Thats what your minimum payment would be in this case. Regards, Fatman

Well yes, the minimum is quite at that even now, but in case you are maintaining a higher liability limit for your car, then you'd automatically be charged the same for both your car as well as your moppet. All the best! aromagrill

Hi guys!

I am not too sure whether you have heard any proposed changes that might come into effect with the upcoming bills. As per the Louisiana Insurance commissioner, the state needs the least in terms of liability coverage & hence doesn't offer any protection worthy of the expert drivers. There are chances that any new bill would renew the minimum liability requirement to be enhanced to $25,000 for any bodily damage caused to an individual, $50,000 for more & likewise $25,000 for any property damage caused due to such an accident. My friends, I have heard of these changes a few days back, but I still believe that they have not been put to effect till date. In case it becomes 25/50/25 the premiums would definitely be varying as high as 30%-50%.

and wish other states would follow suit as well including my own. You can hardly purchase a decent used vehicle for 10k...and won't even allow myself to 'get started' on the low B.I./UM limits. Just want to point out, too, you all are calling it ''or more'' ''two or more'', which I suppose might be technically correct, but the policy wording would be 'per loss' or 'per accident'.. ie B.I. policy limit of 25k per person and 50k per accident.

It is very important, and over looked by far too many that the state minimums are just that, minimums. Any claim(s) above those limits are the responsiblity of the negligent party. Your carrier will always attempt to settle the claims within policy limit, but that is just not always possible. I wish all agents would advise clients of this at the time of selling/quoting the policy. And wish the insured were required to sign off that they understand they are purchasing these min. limits. But alas, so many times, it's about getting the 'cheapest' or manditory coverage/limit. And invaritably, the guy with the excess policy limit claim, says, 'I didn't know!"...sad.........
