Hi,

I took my kids to the pediatrician where they received vaccinations, but one of those vaccines was not covered by my insurance. Am I responsible to pay? Shouldn't the physician's office have told me that it was not covered?

Did they ask for your coverage documents prior to these vaccinations?
If they're not obligated by a legal agreement, I'd rather believe it's your responsibility to check what's covered under your policy. Roddick

I guess you don't have another choice but to pay for those vaccines out of pocket.

I agree with Roddick, too. It is our responsibility to check first which stuff are covered and which are not.

bottom line is that it's not the clinics job to sort out who pays, it's their job to give the shots. If you want them, it's really up to you to do the checking first.

Although I agree that we are responsible for knowing our own liabilities....vaccinations are so common that the doctor's office probably knows what is covered and what is not.

When I took my kids for their vaccinations I decided to have the HPV vaccination for my daughter. The doctor told me that my plan would cover it except for that particular one there would be a five dollar co-pay.

I had the option of opting out at that point. They know what is covered and what is not.

It is not like when you go to the ER and a bunch of things are done, but you don;t ask because they just need to be done. You deal with the fallout later.

Vaccinations are common place. It would have been nice for them to tell you.

With your doctor I guess you will just have to ask them about every single test or shot they are going to do from now on.
